Way to Go ~ A Packing Party!
Ten-year old Lauren Ulm is learning the value of giving back and helping others in need. For the past several years as her birthday approaches, Lauren has collected donations to give to a charity - instead of receiving gifts in her honor. Lauren's mother Kelly says, "We feel it is so
important in today's world to teach our kids about giving back and helping others in need, not only with money but with our time and talents. It is so easy to send some money in an envelope but we think actually doing something with our hands and time teaches our kids a much more valuable lesson." When her mother asked Lauren what she thought about having her birthday party at a Kids Against Hunger packing event, Lauren was excited. She shared with her mom that it was important to her to do something for other kids so that they can eat and live a long, happy life. On August 20th Lauren and her friends gathered at the Red Cross in Noblesville to celebrate her 10th birthday and pack meals. Instead of spending money to take the girls somewhere to be entertained, the Ulms contributed almost $300 to help cover the cost of ingredients to pack. Seeing the filled bags stack up was both fun and gratifying. Kids Against Hunger thanks you Lauren - and Happy Birthday!
